When something you buy is broken or stolen, it shouldn't be your problem. That's why if you use your Card for eligible purchases, they can be protected from accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days from the moment you buy them.
If you try to return an eligible item within 90 days from the date of purchase and the merchant won't take it back, American Express may refund the full purchase price, up to $300 per item.
My laptop was recently stolen from my house. I called and was grateful to have Purchase Protection on my Card and was able to be reimbursed the cost of the laptop. I purchased a new laptop with my Card with the money I received back. Thank you.

The Benefits are worth the annual expense. The payback is almost instant with access to the Airport lounges. The perk for covering the incidentals that airlines seem to nickel and dime you with these days is icing on the cake.Not worrying about the 'will my purchased be authorized' while on an extended travel session is a great release of anxiety, allowing me to relax.All in all almost perfect. What could make it perfect? Not sure, it's mighty close.

I especially love being able to benefit the airline perks of this Amex Platinum. It also keeps my balance in check without carring a huge balance each month.Love the card!!
The benefits are definitely not quite worth the hefty annual fee and often the card is not accepted in several areas/merchants that I find it devalues the card even more.
The AmEx Travel staff is fantastic. They calmly and competently dealt with some major crises- cancelled cruises and flights- and went above and beyond to assist my family.
I have been a loyal cardmember since 1992 and have enjoyed the stellar service and exceptional travel-related benefits that come with the Card. I recently took a new job that requires weekly domestic travel (yes, i am a road warrior) and the upgrade to Platinum has made the travel as pleasurable as can be expected given the challenges we all face while on the road.

Mostly I like my Platinum card. The travel benefits, like free companion air tickets for business class and entry into airport lounges, are terrific. We have planned some wonderful vacations with Amex travel, but we have also had some spotty experiences with Platinum travel. Recently, planning a complicated trip, we doublechecked the recommendations and found that we had not been given all of the likely options. On the other hand, we recently returned from a cruise vacation, with stops before and after, and everything was handled perfectly.

Over the years I have continually been impressed with American Express' Platinum service. Everything from their amazing customer service to around the clock concierge has made this card my top pick. For each conversion of points into the Frequent Flyer program of a U.S. airline, a fee of $0.0006 per point, with a maximum fee of $99, will be charged to your Card account. We charge this fee to offset the federal excise tax we must pay on such conversions. The fee may be more or less than the actual amount of the excise tax we pay on any individual conversion. We may offer you the option to redeem points to pay this fee.

To receive statement credits of up to $200 a year toward incidental air travel fees, Card member must enroll and choose a qualifying airline at www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice. If we agree to apply a limit, it is not a guarantee that the Additional Card member will be able to make Purchases or cash access transactions up to the applicable limit. Any request that we change a limit may not be effective until a subsequent billing period.
